Project Facts

Client : Wates Construction

Sector : Custodial, Civil Engineering

Project Value : £3.8M

Duration : 2011 – 2013

Overview

HMP Ford is an open prison based in West Sussex and was a former World War 2 airfield. There was an on site sewage treatment facility however over the course of the years and after numerous extensions the prison required wholescale renewal of its drainage systems. As it was not possible for the prison to be closed while the works were carried out Wates Construction chose to partner with PP Construction to carry out these complex works. This allowed various value engineering and methodology options to be explored and implemented in the final works, reducing the Client’s budget and programme.

Scope of Works

Once the combined plan had been approved by the Ministry of Justice PP Construction carried out the renewal of over 5Km of drainage within the prison. Further to this, the works also included demolition of existing sewage treatment plant, 10.0m deep pump chambers, 3Km of pump main installed on an A road all whilst maintaining strict security guidelines.
